Waiting on the Lord: What the Bible Teaches About Patience and Faith

Introduction

What Does It Mean to Wait on the Lord?

It means believing that God's wisdom is greater than our understanding and that His timing is always perfect.
Psalm 37:7 says:
"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him."
Waiting is an act of faith because it requires us to trust God's promises instead of our own timetable.
God's Timing Is Always Perfect
One of the hardest lessons Christians learn is that God rarely works according to our schedule.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us:
"He has made everything beautiful in its time."
Notice the words "in its time."
Not our time.
His time.
God sees every detail of our lives from beginning to end.

David Waited to Become King
David was anointed as Israel's future king while he was still a young shepherd.

These qualities cannot be rushed.
They are cultivated over time.
God Is Working While You Wait

But God's work is often invisible before it becomes visible.
Consider Joseph.
While imprisoned, Joseph probably wondered if his dreams would ever come true.

When we rush ahead of God, we often create problems He never intended for us to experience.
Losing Hope
Long periods of waiting can tempt us to believe God has forgotten us.
But Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God is faithful.
His promises never expire.
Hope anchored in Christ remains secure.
Comparing Your Journey
It's easy to compare your life with someone else's.
You may wonder why others seem to receive answers more quickly.
Remember that God writes a unique story for every believer.
Focus on His plan for your life instead of comparing it to someone else's.
How to Wait Well
Keep Praying
Don't stop bringing your requests before God.
Persistent prayer demonstrates trust rather than doubt.
Jesus encouraged His followers to pray continually without giving up.
Stay in God's Word
God's promises strengthen us during seasons of waiting.
Spend time reading Scripture every day.
His truth steadies the heart when circumstances feel uncertain.
Continue Serving
Don't put your spiritual life on hold while waiting.
Look for opportunities to:
Encourage others.

Share the Gospel.

Faithfulness today prepares you for tomorrow.
Remember God's Faithfulness
Think about times when God answered previous prayers.
His faithfulness in the past gives confidence for the future.
